The gridlines in the viewfinder of your Nikon camera

Once you have decided on your subject, you can make the decision on how the subject will be shown to its full advantage using your Nikon camera.  Photographers use the rule of thirds as a guide in showing their subject.

The viewfinder of the LCD screen will show you an approximation of how a photograph will finally look like. Some Nikon cameras have an item in its menu allowing gridlines to show through the viewfinder.  These gridlines serve as guide to help the photographer frame images and the gridlines will not be there when the picture is printed or processed.
